New Blog

Hello Everyone,

This is my new blog, I am pretty new in blogging, and I hope I will learn with time how to make this blog as interesting and helpful as possible.

A little bit about myself:
My name is Tomer, I am a 32 years old guy from Israel, recently married, no kids yet. I work in a software company named 'Amdocs' specialized in the IT market. In Amdocs my job is to test the performance of our products before we ship it to our customers. This means I travel allot to customers sites. My job sent me to different places around the globe like Australia, Brazil, Ireland, UK, US and Canada. I really enjoy traveling, I love to get to know different cultures and meet interesting people.
I speak Hebrew as a first language and control English pretty well. I love languages so in my spare time I study Arabic which is very important to know here in the Middle East.
My English is not bad, I have to speak and understand good English since I work with customers all over the world, but I am not saying I have perfect English so excuse me if you see a mistake here and there in my posts.

About the Blog:
This blog idea came to me a few weeks ago after I was struggling to build a Media Centre based on Linux. I will not exaggerate if I say I had to install a different Linux distribution almost every day on my Living room PC. The trouble with Linux is that each distribution acts differently on the same PC. In one distribution your sound card can work great but the Video card will fail, in another distribution the Video card detection will be perfect but the remote control won’t work and in the third distribution the remote control will work good, the video card will be optimized but the sound card will not give you sound from your HDMI output. If you combine all those distros to one it will be perfect but we don’t live in a perfect world so we have to work very hard in order to have a perfect Linux based HTPC.
This is just an example. The blog will focus on many fields other then Home Media center.
I will talk about many things in technology, Windows or Linux, work related or home related, servers or desktops.
There are some fields that I believe I will be focus more but not only, those fields are:
1. Linux desktops (for personal use at home)
2. Satellite TV (privet dish, not the commercial ones)
3. Java (I am not an expert but I love Java very much)
4. Web sites building (especially in java and JSP. again, not an expert)
5. Performance and Load testing (In this field I am an expert)

What will not be in this blog?
1. Politics
2. Insulting and bad behavior
3. Illegal Ideas, hacking and cracks (who needs them in Linux)

I am not a Linux developer or an expert; all my posts will be from a view of a simple user, minimum compiling and developing, maximum step by step guides. All I know and will know is based on other peoples forums or blogs and official guides of products. As I said, I had a hard life making things work for me so I will try to make things easier for others.

I hope you have a good time here.
Tomer.
